Memorable Travel Experience(s)
I was in the Army in Alaska. When my husband died, I decided to leave that assignment and transfered. So I drove out of Fairbanks, Alaska on 12/3/2018 to get on the ferry in Haines, AK. To do that, I had to drive from there in the middle of winter and couldn't find a place to stay enroute. I drove twelve hours listening to audio books, hauling a trailer with my car stuffed to the brim, including my standard poodle in a tiny space I left for her. I drove the Alaska Hwy into Canada at night and through the Yukon Territory. No other cars on the road. No road houses that would answer the phone. So cold and so dark. I was stressed and tired but had to keep driving. As we approached Destruction Bay, it started to snow and I had to follow the tracks in the snow on the road of someone who had driven before. Any deviation and we would have been in the water. We got to Destruction Bay at 2 a.m. and miraculously, someone answered the phone. We got a room just before an ice storm started.
