Congratulations to the traveling Smith Family from the United Kingdom! All three have now officially visited all 50 U.S. states!
This summer, Marina and 21-year-old Athena Smith completed their final four states—Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and their state #50, North Carolina—marking the end of their incredible 50-state journey. Andy Smith reached all 50 states in 2018 at age 50. He is close to completing his second round to all 50 by age 60!
Their most recent adventure covered 3,000 miles over 24 days. It included stops at Jamestown and Colonial National Historical Park, New River Gorge, the Coca-Cola Museum, Congaree National Park, Key West, Biscayne National Park, and even a fantastic day trip to Dry Tortugas National Park.
Andy has now visited 192 of the 433 National Park Service sites and 57 of the 63 U.S. National Parks, with Marina and Athena not far behind. American Samoa is planned for October 2026! Just the difficult ones to get to in Alaska are left to visit.
On an earlier road trip, they drove 6,000 miles from Denver to New York (with plenty of detours!) stopping at fun geographic landmarks, including the geographic center of the United States (Belle Fourche, SD and the actual surveyed center), the center of North America (Hensler, ND) and the Mississippi River Headwaters at the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center. Other crazy road trips include San Francisco to Denver and a specially planned trip from New Orleans to Chicago via Petoskey to complete all the states in the middle.
