Biography
Hello my name is Nicholas (Nick) Donaldson, and I’m 5 years and 1 month old from Fredericksburg , VA. The cover photo is of my parents and me ( you might not see me, but I’m in the middle and my profile photo may prevent you from seeing me) I at the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington, taken Sunday, July 21, 2019. My family was so much a big part of my travel experiences and accomplishing this goal.
I completed my visitation of all 50 states on July 22, 2019, when I was only 5 years, 1 month old and my final state to accomplish this goal was Oregon. My family and I were on a Pacific Northwest trip (Alaska, Washington State, Oregon and Canada) in July and my dad Mike (60 years old) , also completed his 5oth state during the same time frame, but I have him beat by 55 years. My mom was on the trip too, but has about three more states to go. All of my travels to the 50 states and Washington, DC, were completed three weeks before I began Kindergarten. I also traveled to my first international country (Canada) twice in July 2019, while on an Alaskan Cruise with my parents.
As you can see, I began traveling at an early age (10 days old) and have rode on most modes of transportation (car, bus, train, airplane and boat). Most of my travels to accomplish this feat was organic in nature and most trips were regional trips over the five year period. What started out as normal, became a quest for legacy and memories for me by my dad, Michael (Mike) who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Inoperable Pancreatic Cancer, one week before I was born. At the time I was born in 2014, 75% of all who were diagnosis died in one year and there was only a 6% – 5 year survival rate in 2014. Fortunately for me, he is around five years later, cancer free and being what a dad should be. My dad Mike, or either my mother Christy (most states both parents) accompanied me on my young explorations. I love staying in hotels and sometimes desire to stay in one locally where we live, but my parents tell me no. I’m up for a road trip at any time.
I have a good memory so far in my young life, but my dad took plenty of photos in most of the states I traveled, so that I can reflect on them now and when I’m much older. I’m now ready to make international travel to countries around the world my next hurdle, but of course school is a priority right now. I’m thankful to God for my family and our story and what my little eyes have seen so far.
