What defines “visiting” a state?

A person has visited a state if he or she has set foot on the ground of  that state and breathed the air.  Having a lay-over at an airport does not  count as visiting that state.  However, going outside of the airport is  acceptable.   Some members have arranged for a long lay-over, then rented a car  by-the-hour to be able to see more of the city/state. Flying over a state does not count.  Members may, of course, set their own guidelines.  Some prefer not to count a state unless they have spent the night in that state.  Any extra  guidelines set, may be noted on a certificate and/or plaque.  Enter this information in the Special Designations section on the

How can  you certify someone has visited all 50 states without any proof?

Our organization is about celebrating a fantastic achievement.  By requiring “proof” it creates unnecessary work for all.  Quite frankly, if someone decides to “lie” and say they  have visited all fifty states, then they obviously have issues that will not be solved by denying them membership!  Many members like to keep “proof” of their travels by taking pictures by the state sign, bringing home a spoon, piggy bank, or mailing a postcard home in each state they go to.

Can I purchase a membership/certificate/plaque as a gift?

Yes.  A gift  membership is a great idea for friends or family who have made this accomplishment.  On the application form – in the comments section – please note that it is a gift membership and if there is a different address you would like  the certificate mailed to.

Do I have  to apply as an individual or can I apply as a  couple?

You may apply as an individual, couple or group.  If you apply as a couple, the certificate will be issued as “Sue and Tom Parker” and will be listed the same on the register.  If you apply as a family, the certificate will be issued as “Jones Family” and listed the same on the register.  If you would like individual certificates for each members, please apply separately.  If you have a large group, contact@travelgoalgetter.com for a possible membership discount.


We do not accept returns due to the personalized nature of the certificates and plaques unless the item is damaged or a name was incorrectly spelled.  If it was our mistake, we will fix it.  We want you to be satisfied so please e-mail or call with any concerns to see how we can remedy the situation.
